Design Challenge Format
The Babson Design Challenge is a year long hackathon where Babson clubs compete and collaborate to solve problems that impact the Babson community.
The Babson Design Challenge starts in the fall with an initial two hour hackathon where university clubs gather to design a solution to a problem their club would like to solve.
Leveraging design thinking methodologies, club teams interview fellow students and create a design plan that they believe will improve their club and the campus community. Each club team implements their unique design plan over the course of the winter and then reconvenes in the spring to present the impact of their solution.
At the spring awards event, club team captains vote for the design solution that had the greatest impact on the school community.
Pioneering a New Educational Model
The Babson Design Challenge was founded with the ideal of creating a new educational model that provides college and high school students the opportunity to solve real world problems and capture the impact of their solutions in a digital portfolio. In contrast to many hackathons and business case competitions that reward students for proposals, the Babson Design Challenge rewards students for the impact their solutions have on real people and real organizations.
